➡️Day 1: Rail Explorers, Check-In, Dinner at Baroncini Ristorante

➡️Day 2: Core4 or Exploring & Great Eats

➡️Day 3: Crepes & Scenic Drive Home

Day One: Rail Explorers, Check-In, Dinner at Baroncini Ristorante

Kick off your trip with a scenic ride on the Rail Explorers in Boone before heading to Iowa City for a relaxing check-in and delicious Italian dinner at Baroncini Ristorante. It’s a unique and energizing start to your weekend getaway.

Morning

Get an early start and hit the road with a breakfast-on-the-go, my go-to is the gluten-free Egg Soufflé from Caribou Coffee. Try to arrive in Boone, IA by 10:45AM for your reservation at Rail Explorers, a one-of-a-kind experience that’s only available in a few places in the U.S. Trust me, this is worth the detour.

Afternoon

Once you’re checked in at Rail Explorers, get comfy in your pedal-powered rail car (don’t worry, it’s assisted!) and enjoy a scenic ride with views of the Iowa countryside. This BYOB-friendly ride is easy for all fitness levels and is one of our favorite unexpected Midwest finds. Be sure to book in advance as they sell out quickly. Grab a light lunch before heading to Iowa City or stop somewhere casual along the way.

Whether you’re racing in Core4 or just soaking in the energy, enjoy a full day of outdoor fun, local food, and exploring spots like Wilson’s Orchard, the Pedestrian Mall, or Devonian Fossil Gorge. Cap it off with dinner at St. Burch or wood-fired pizza back at your hotel.

Morning

If you’re racing today, good luck and eat accordingly! If not, take a slow morning and head to The Encounter Café for coffee and a hearty breakfast. Located just a short walk from the Graduate, this spot is warm, welcoming, and perfect for fueling up before a day of cheering or exploring.

Start the day with unforgettable crepes at Crepes de Luxe Café, then turn your drive home into an adventure with wine, caves, or cider stops along the way. It’s the perfect wind-down to an active, memorable weekend.

Morning

You have to stop at Crepes de Luxe Café before hitting the road. This hidden gem is tiny, popular, and totally worth the wait. Get there early for the best experience, you’ll be glad you did.
